Official Dover Athletic Football Club - Youth Teams - Maidstone Utd U15s 2-2 DAFC U15s
Maidstone Utd U15s 2-2 DAFC U15s Paul Evison | Wed 28th Mar 2012
Athletic traveled to third placed Maidstone United in the last league fixture of the season looking to rap up the season with a win. United would obviously be looking to take revenge for the Semi Final defeat to Athletic and they showed that enthusiasm in the early stages. But it was Dover than made all the early threats and it was a Donnelly breakaway that was wrongly stopped via a foul, and Matthew Bennett's free kick just inside the Stones half missed everyone and flew straight into the net to send Athletic 1-0 up. Stones reacted really well to going behind and it was Mayell and Dan Sharpe that took control of the game, and this really did push Athletic defensive rearguard for long periods only for superb defending from Michael Reith, Pat Okwudinka and Captain Dan Wells on more than one occasion.
Athletic stayed strong till the half 1-0 up, Second half started as much of the first half did with Maidstone pushing Athletic back into last ditch tackles, mistakes and route one football. The Stones equaliser come from no Dover player taking responsibility and a unmarked Stone player fired home inside the Athletic box to level the game.
Dover did manage to respond with some of the football they know they can play and this was marshaled by Aaron Simpson and it was a good flowing move that got Jack Goldsmith away and hes excellent cross found Simpson unmarked and he sent Athletic in front for the second time.
But once again going ahead made Athletic become send best and for the last half an hour Stones dominated everywhere over the pitch and should of really been miles in front by now. But they managed to secure a point when a free kick was swung in and Athletic aloud the ball to reach the six yard box and keeper and players didn't take responsibly and it was headed home to level the game up.
Dover finished runners up in there very first season as a team and are in the Kent Cup Final, So big congratulations to all the players for a fantastic season.
