DOVER BEAT STRUGGLING TELFORD

Stefan Payne’s early goal was enough to see off lowly Telford in an unspectacular event. Chris was in full agreement that the match enjoyment was at a minimum but was still happy to take all three points. ‘I thought we looked really good in the first half, but we seemed to take out foot off the pedal and were overplaying things in the second half. To be fair to Telford, they put four big guys up front to change things and it really became land of the giants.’*Q1*

‘At the end of the day we have cemented ourselves in tenth and are only two points of the team above us. We may have a really hard run in, but we are still looking to move up the table.’

Tom Wynter played in an unfamiliar position, replacing the suspended Connor Essam at right wing back and Kinnear was quick to praise the reliable defender. ‘I remember playing a couple of seasons at left back as a right footer and we know Tom is a proper defender. I thought he did really well.’

Chris will now be scouting Wrexham in Sunday’s FA Trophy final ahead of their league encounter at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday night. ‘It will be a tough game and it is probably my biggest regret this season that we did not reach the final, but in football you cannot have everything.’

As the matches run out for the season, the squad for next season is fast becoming the hot topic on supporters lips. But Chris was unable to reveal any more news on that front for now. ‘We are talking to the lads and other players,’ he said. ‘This time last year, we did not know what league we would be in, but this year we know and that means we will not have to rush about signing people.’*Lpic1*
