Report By Bill Marrion

Just to clear up a few facts about Tuesday's match at Ashford. With Ashford fielding their complete first team the game was basically over after 4 minutes. From a corner to the angle of the penalty area Ashford's Jeff Ross hit a superb strike into the top corner on 2 minutes and 2 mins later a two footed lunge by Tom Hickman left the Referee no choice but to send him off.

For the next 35 minutes Dover's ten men were outstanding but were then hit with two goals just before the break from John Nolan and Dave Hassett.

After the dismissal of Hickman, striker Jordan Barnett was sacrificed to bring on Dean Frost to play in midfield and it was Frost who scored an excellent goal following a good move involving Dean Hill and Dave Bathgate.

Hassett got his second on 52 minutes making it 4-1. On 63 mins Mike Cassar put John Ovard through only to be brought down by Ashford keeper John Whitehouse. Ovard took the resulting penalty but Whitehouse dived to his left to make a brilliant save. Ashford rounded off the scoring in the 80th minute to make it 5-1.

Our Man of the Match was Craig Cloke who showed maturity well beyond his years and a mention for lone striker Ovard who caused the Ashford defence considerable problems with his pace.
