Matt Carruthers leaps above two Sutton defenders to head at goal.

Dover will be disappointed to have only got a point at home to one of the Conference's bottom clubs, in a game in which both sides played poorly, particulary as Sutton played the last hour with only 10 men.

Dover were without influential midfielders Dave Clarke (injured) and Simon Wormull (suspended). In addition Dover's forwards, Hynes and Vansittart, both ex-Sutton players, were below par.

Sutton's Paul Harford left the field before the half hour mark, after picking up two yellow cards in the space of a minute for clumsy challenges.

Dover had the better percentage of possession, as you would expect with the man advantage, but were unable to stamp their authority on the game. At half time it was still 0-0.

In the second half Sutton's Ekoku and Dover keeper Paul Hyde were involved in a bust-up and were both lucky to escape dismissals.

Both sides laboured through the second period without really creating anything, until Dover took the lead after 75 minutes with a piece of quality football that looked out of place in such a poor game. Having won a free-kick about 30 yards out, the ball was played along the ground to Mark Hynes who was by the penalty spot with his back to goal. He side-footed the ball out to his right, the Dover left, where it was picked up by the overlapping Steve Norman who delivered a perfect cross to the back post where Jake Leberl headed home unchallenged.

However, Dover let Sutton off the hook, and Sammy Winston equalised five minutes later.

A committed performance by Dover, but playing their fourth game in 10 days, and without their three best midfielders they were unable to secure all three points.
