DAVID LEWORTHY: A TRUE WHITES LEGEND

LEWORTHY VOTED YOUR NO 1

*BS*Legendary striker David Leworthy has been voted as Dover Athletic’s best ever player in an online poll by supporters.*BF*

David lit up Crabble in the mid 1990s and remains our record fee signing, having joined the club from Farnborough for £50,000.

There was little doubt about the outcome, such is the esteem that Leworthy is held in by Dover supporters who had the privilege of watching him play. However, last season’s record-breaking goalscorer and FA Cup hero Adam Birchall ran the great man very close, finishing just 23 points behind in second place.

Club photographer Simon Harris contacted the winner to pass on the result and soon received a reply from the man who also scored goals for Tottenham, Oxford, Reading, Farnborough and Kingstonian, amongst others in an outstanding playing career.

*BS*David said:*BF* “I am very honoured to have won this award, especially with all the great players that have played for DAFC over the years.

“I will definitely come down to a game soon as I get a chance, I think I owe it to all at the club for voting for me and you also know how fond of the club I am. Thank you to all concerned.”

*Lpic1*The vote was organised by supporter Callum Snell on the unofficial fans forum, where there is a 23 page thread dedicated to the “Top 100 DAFC Players”: *Link1*

The thread includes comments from former players, including Tim Dixon and Tony MacDonald, who were voted 6th and 37th respectively.

Of the current squad, Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz came out top in joint 45th alongside former boss Andy Hessenthaler. Olly Schulz and Tom Wynter came joint 47th.
