MATT GADSBY

*BS*FORMER Mansfield and Walsall defender Matt Gadsby died after collapsing during Hinckley’s Conference North match at Harrogate Town.

*BF*The 27-year-old, who began his career with Walsall before moving on to Mansfield, Kidderminster and Forest Green, collapsed after 20 minutes of this afternoon’s match at Wetherby Road, which was abandoned at that stage.

Gadsby fell to the ground near the Hinckley penalty area, while play was at the opposite end of the pitch. Paramedics battled to resuscitate the player on the pitch, dashing to the scene from a North Yorkshire ambulance station next to the ground.

An ambulance drove onto the pitch and later took Gadsby to hospital after further treatment.

He died shortly afterwards in Harrogate District Hospital, 300 yards away from the stadium.

Gadsby captained the Hinckley side that played Dover during a pre-season game at Crabble.
