WATT SIGNS FOR STONES

WATT A NEW SIGNING

*BS*Dover Athletic have pulled off a coup with the signing of Steven Watt, who officially joined the club on Saturday.*BF*

The former Chelsea and Grimsby centre back has been training with the club throughout July and is going part-time as part of his plans to make a career in coaching.

Watt, 26, has non-league experience with Grimsby last season, when he made 25 appearances and scored two goals. Spotted as a youngster playing for Aberdeen, Steve spent four years at Chelsea during the Jose Mourinho era before returning to Scotland.

The commanding defender has recently trialled with Mansfield and turned down an offer from another Blue Square Bet Premier club to live in the south and join Dover Athletic.

Steve told ‘Too Good To Go Down’ (A Grimsby FC fan blog) two weeks ago: “As I am living in Kent, I was invited to train with Dover through a friend who played for them (Adam Birchall), so I have been doing pre season training with them.

“My long term goal in football is to move into coaching and hopefully one day management. I have done my FA Level 2 and have been toying with the idea of moving into part time football, which Dover can offer me, and coaching.”
